if the word is one syllable , we add er in comparative and est in superlative
long longer the longest
if the word is two syllables end y , we delete y and add ier in comparative and iest in superlative

funny funnier than the funniest

if the word two syllables , we add more in comparative and the most in superlative

When we compare two things, we often use the comparative forms of adjectives or adverbs, for example:
